Egerton is a hilltop village in the Weald of Kent, sitting on a greensand ridge between the Vale of Kent and the North Downs scarp. It is a scattered rural parish with a mix of oast houses, weather-boarded cottages, Victorian farmworkers' terraces, and some more recent infill development around the village centre near St James's Church. The village is about eight miles north-west of Ashford, with Headcorn to the east and Pluckley to the south-east.

The greensand geology gives Egerton moderately hard water — not as aggressive as the chalk downland villages, but enough to cause gradual limescale build-up in shower heads, tap cartridges, and toilet fill valves over the years.
