Westwell is a small downland village in the North Downs, sitting on the chalk escarpment above the Vale of Kent between Charing and Ashford. The parish includes the hamlet of Westwell Leacon and a scattering of farms and cottages along the lanes. The village is known for its Norman church of St Mary, which dates from the twelfth century and is a listed building. The housing stock is predominantly older — a mix of flint-and-brick cottages, Victorian farmhouses, and a small number of more recent properties.

Westwell sits firmly in the hard water zone. The chalk geology means the mains water supply carries a high calcium carbonate content, and limescale build-up is one of the most common plumbing problems we see in this area.
